Most hay classes selling steady

In Nebraska and the East River area of South Dakota, alfalfa and grass hay sold steady. Ground and delivered hay $5 higher. Dehydrated alfalfa pellets sold steady to $5 higher, according to the USDA Market News Service, Aug. 4. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Eastern/central—Premium alfalfa, large squares, $180; good, large squares, $140-$150, large rounds, $80-$85; fair, large squares, $105-$110. Premium alfalfa orchard grass, large rounds, $120. Good/premium grass hay, large squares, $115; premium, small squares, $150, good, large rounds, $80-$90. Straw, large squares, $70. Cornstalks, baled this spring in round bales, $40. In Texas, in the Panhandle, hay traded steady to $5 higher except for top end quality hay instances $15 higher. Movement was slow to moderate as some buyers are waiting in hopes of lower prices as barns fill up with new crop hay.
