California Hay Report

Compared to last week: All classes traded steady with very good demand.
According to the NASS Crop Progress Report 5/29/18, showers were experienced
over the coastal and interior areas of central and northern California
throughout the week as upper level lows moved across the region. The interior
mountains also experienced occasional thunderstorms and some snow showers. With
the building of high pressure along the West Coast, warmer and drier conditions
developed for most of the state on Sunday and into Monday. Temperatures were
colder than normal across the state for the week. Temperature highs for the
week ranged in the 70s to 80s in the mountains, 80s to 90s in the valley, 60s to
80s along the coast, and 80s to 100s in the desert. Temperature lows for the
week ranged in the 30s to 50s in the mountains, in the 40s to 50s in the valley
and along the coast, and 40s to 60s in the desert. Potatoes for seed and beans
were emerging in Sacramento County. Wheat was turning gold and drying out in
Colusa County. Mild weather conditions had a positive impact on planted crops in
the Sacramento Valley. Hay is reported FOB the stack or barn unless otherwise
noted. Regions are defined at bottom of report.
