Week ending 06/22/2018 Summer officially arrived this week and farmers continue to try to add some inventory to their hay supplies. No doubt at this point unless there is some tremendous fall cuttings overall supplies will be much lower when feeding season arrives. Demand for hay is good as worries about the ability to get hay later in the year are pretty justified. Most hay is not staying on the market for long before it is scooped up. Wheat harvest has brought new crop straw to the market as well and seeing some movement of that occurring now. Hay supplies are light to moderate and prices are steady to firm. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales price listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).
