Nebraska Hay Summary

Week Ending June 08, 2018

Compared to last week new crop baled hay to lightly tested for a market
comparison, dehy pellets sold steady to 5.00 higher. Bales of old crop
hay and ground and delivered hay sold steady on a light test. Buyer
inquire is good across the state especially from feedlots that are
needing to buy grinding type feed. Most producers are perplexed on where
to price there “newly” baled hay. Most of the dairy hay is at a 1.00 per
point of “RFV” (Relative Feed Value) and the grinding type hay is lower
than that on early sales. Wide range of standing hay prices from East to
West going from 70.00-90.00 in the field. Some of the standing hay is
going to dehy operators with other fields being put up in baled hay.
Rain across several areas of the state Wednesday evening with some areas
in the state receiving some crop damage from hail and wind. Some
producers have noted that tonnage is very good for their first cutting
with others saying tonnage is behind of last year. All sales are dollars
per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted.
