Week Ending June 15th, 2018 For this week: Slightly more hay was available across Iowa this past week. Unfortunately the majority of the supreme and premium hay was shipped in from out of state. Utility grade grass hay could readily be used as bedding rather than as a feed source as most Large Rounds were baled when the grass was still moist. Both oat and wheat straw were available as was rye straw. Rye straw could readily be found across the state in small squares. Corn stalks, baled last year were marketed in Large Rounds. While cattle producers appeard to be content with corn stalks for bedding both goat and shoop producers tended to buy rye.
