Wyoming Hay Summary

Week ending June 16, 2018

Not enough comparable sales for an adequate market test this week. However, a higher undertone on new crop hay has prevailed. Demand and buyer inquiries were good this week. Many producers and buyers are having a hard time nailing down a fair market price for the first cutting of hay. Production has been going well in the western areas of the state the last couple of weeks with quite a lot of small and large squares produced. Cooler than normal morning temperatures this week with a couple of days of a light frost reported from producers. Tuesday morning lows hit 29 degrees in the Powell area of the state. Producers don't think much crop damage will occur as hay fields look good and other crops are not showing any signs of distress. All prices are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn unless otherwise noted. Prices are from the most recent reported sales.
