Colorado Hay Report

   Compared to last week, trade activity and demand moderate.  In northern 
Colorado, green chop on first cutting hay is in full swing.  Growers are readily 
moving first cutting hay with little resistance to price from buyers.  Growers 
in the Lower Arkansas Valley are predominately putting 1st cutting hay up in 
small squares.  A few growers in the San Luis Valley and Southwest Colorado 
Areas have 1st cutting down and should be in full swing by this weekend to early 
next week.  According to the U.S Drought Monitor for June 5, 2018, 75.31 percent 
of the state falls in a D0-D4 Drought Category compared to 6.16 percent a year 
ago.  Of those percentages, 50.80 percent falls into the D2-D4 categories.  The 
NASS Colorado Crop progress report for week ending June 3, 2018, stored feed 
supplies were rated 7 percent very short, 18 percent short, 74 percent adequate, 
and 1 percent surplus.  1st cutting Alfalfa hay progress is at 17 percent.  
Pasture and range conditions percentages are 16 percent Very Poor, 24 percent 
Poor, 24 percent Fair, 30 percent Good, and 6 percent Excellent.  Corn, potato, 
spring wheat and sugar beet crop planting are near completion.  The next 
available report will be Thursday, June 14, 2018.  All prices reported are FOB 
at the stack or barn unless otherwise noted.  Prices reflect load lots of hay.
