Kansas Hay Market Report

Ground/Grinding alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central
Tonnage: 10,593/6,465 Last week: 8,613/6,452 Last year: 8,844/3,406

Hay market trade was slow to moderate, demand was slow, and prices mostly
steady. Lower quality alfalfa is softer; however, higher quality forages seem to
be holding their value. It is a busy time for farmers, everyone seems to be
juggling a lot of different balls this time of year; haying, harvesting,
planting and working ground. But fear not, the hay season that seems to be
dragging on is rapidly coming to an end. Many hay producers state they should be
finished in the next 2 to 3 weeks. Abnormally dry (D0) and moderate drought
(D1) conditions worsened in the past week for the southwest region, with D0 at
15 pct. and D1 near 3 pct. If you have any extra hay to sell and/or need hay
