Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay sold fully steady. Slow to moderate
market activity was seen this week. Demand for hay is mostly light to moderate
with most large sales moving into neighboring western states. A potentially
historic early season snow storm is set to hit western Montana this weekend and
early next week. This has producers scrambling as they try to decide
to cut or not. Many producers in central and western Montana are still
cutting second cutting as they saw limited heat units causing hay to grow
slow and mature late. Late season rains have range and pastures all greened
up which continues to limit demand for hay. All prices below are new crop hay
unless otherwise noted. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise
noted.
