Week Ending Sep 6, 2019
Compared to last week hay sold steady on a thin test. Demand was mostly
light throughout the state. A lot of hay has been cut this week and many
are hoping they can get it baled before the next rounds of rain. Some
feedlots have started chopping silage south of York. Early, reports
tonnage is good but many are having very hard time getting through the
soft muddy fields. Several reports of large tractors pushing or pulling
trucks through the fields. It appears most field in the central part of
the state will be fighting these muddy conditions for fall harvest as
some have reported 16” of rain to this office for August. Some reports
that premium alfalfa is scarce this season. Note: “All sales are dollars
per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted.”
