Hay prices are steady to stronger. Lower quality hay has an extreme range. Straw prices are for oat, barley, or wheat straw. Prices are strong for all packages of straw. Small square bales averaged $4.10 a bale (range of $1.50 to $6.00). Large square bale straw averaged $67.00 per bale (a wide range of $40.00 to $110.00). Large round bale straw averaged $58.00 per bale (a range of $47.00 - $70.00).

In Nebraska, hay sold steady, there was an increase in demand this week. Most farmers are playing a waiting game for corn to dry down to begin harvest. In Iowa, slow week at the hay auction with limited buyers. Most farmers focus is on grain harvest.

In South Dakota, prices are steady to firm with good demand for large square bales. Round bales are discounted.

In Missouri, hay demand is light; prices are steady to weak, with moderate supply. Many have finally put away the hay equipment for the year.

In Southwest Minnesota, prices were steady, with a slow to moderate demand and no top quality hay available at the market.

In Kansas, hay trade is slow. Prices have continued to be steady with slow to moderate demand.

In Wisconsin, prices remain strong for top quality hay. Quality hay supplies remain tight with a good supply of lower quality hay. Harvest has many farmers not attending the auction.
