Nebraska Hay Summary

Week Ending Oct 18, 2019

Compared to last week all reported forages sold mostly steady. Demand
picked up this week with several contacts noting they had quite a few
calls from prospective buyers. Harvest on the most part is slow this
fall. With the delay in planting and wet summer many crops are at a
snail’s pace in drying down to a storable moisture content. Many farmers
are on a day to day basis hoping the moisture tester will give them a
thumbs up to start rolling crops from fields to bins. Several reports
that 3rd or 4th cutting of alfalfa is on the ground, some has been baled.
Some cornstalks getting baled on fields where high moisture corn was
picked. Note: “All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn,
unless otherwise noted. All reported prices are confirmed sold prices.”
