Kansas Hay Market Report

Ground/Grinding alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central
Tonnage: 10,810/6,270 Last week: 10,593/6,465 Last year: 7,477/3,088

Hay market trade was slow to moderate, demand was slow, and prices mostly steady. It is a busy time for farmers. Wheat planting is picking up, and corn harvest, while progressing slower than average, is in full swing. However, the hay season will soon be coming to an end. Many hay producers state they should be finished in the next several weeks. Abnormally dry (D0) and moderate drought (D1) conditions, concentrated in the southwest region, worsened slightly in the past week, with D0 at 14 pct. and D1 at 5 pct. This might improve in the coming week, with good chances for rain across the state.
