Kansas Hay Market Report

Ground/Grinding alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central
Tonnage: 8,520/5,509 Last week: 12,630/6,453 Last year: 8,348/3,082

Hay market trade was slow, demand was slow, and prices steady. Kansas had a
taste of winter-like weather last week with temperatures dipping into the
teen's and twenties, leaving frost on the grass. Even a stray snowflake or
two could be found in the northwest counties. Milder weather, however, was
ushered in over the weekend, with highs in the 60's and 70's with lots of
sunshine. Farmers are in the field busy with corn and bean harvest and some
even have a little hay left to bale. Abnormally dry (D0) and moderate
drought (D1) conditions, remain concentrated in the southwest region, with D0
unchanged at 14 pct. and D1 unchanged at 5 pct. If you have any extra hay to
sell and/or need hay here in Kansas, use the services of the Internet Hay
Exchange: www.hayexchange.com/ks.php.
