Nebraska Hay Summary

Week Ending January 26, 2017
  Compared to last week alfalfa and grass hay sold steady. Dehy 
alfalfa pellets and ground and delivered hay sold steady. Buyer inquiry 
picked up this week after the winter storm blew through the state Sunday 
and Monday with reports ranging from a few inches to over 14 inches with 
high winds in most areas. Some areas are the state reporting alfalfa hay 
is getting tight, especially grinding type hay. There also quite a lot of 
hay getting shipped to out of state dairies and feedlots. All sales are 
dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted. 

Eastern/Central Nebraska
Alfalfa: Supreme large square bales 190.00-215.00. Premium large square 
bales 175.00-180.00; Good large square bales 150.00-160.00. Premium large 
round bales 90.00-100.00. Good large round 75.00-85.00. Grass Hay: 
Premium large round bales 85.00-100.00; Good large round bales 80.00-
85.00. Premium small square bales of grass hay 150.00. Cornstalk bales 
50.00-60.00, (depends on how much corn). Straw in large round bales 30.00 
per bale and small square bales 4.00 per bale. Ground and delivered 
alfalfa 115.00.  Dehy Alfalfa pellets 17 percent protein 195.00-230.00. 
Sun-cured alfalfa pellets 15 percent protein 190.00, 17 percent protein 
195.00. 

Platte Valley area of Nebraska
Alfalfa: Good large round bales 85.00-95.00, few at 100.00 mostly going 
out of state; Grass Hay: Good to Premium large round bales 90.00-100.00. 
Cane hay large round bales 70.00. Ground and delivered alfalfa 120.00-
125.00. Alfalfa/Stover mix 110.00-115.00, Ground and delivered cornstalks 
85.00-90.00. Dehy pellets 17 percent protein 195.00-200.00. 

Western Nebraska
Alfalfa: Premium large square bales 150.00-160.00; Good large square 
bales 135.00-150.00. Good large round bales 135.00-145.00. 
Alfalfa/Orchard grass: Good to Premium large square bales 140.00-150.00. 
Forage Barley in round bales 120.00. Millet hay in large round bales 
100.00. Straw large square bales 60.00-65.00. Ground and delivered 
alfalfa 135.00-145.00.
