Compared to last report (12-15-2017): Hay prices sold steady. Demand for hay was light to moderate this week. Winter finally arrived in much of the state from Christmas through New Years. In most locations temperatures were extremely cold and well below average. This helped increase hay usage. Prices, however remain near steady as ranchers continue to buy hay on an as need basis. All types of hay in rounds continue to sell with the best demand. Demand for grass and grass/alfalfa hay was light to moderate on moderate movement seen this week. Demand for straw improved since last report as cold weather and the start of calving season has ranchers stocking up both for feed and bedding purposes. All types of straw sold steady to firm. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise noted.
