Compared to last week: Hay prices sold mostly steady. Demand for
hay was mostly moderate this week, and noticeably better than last
week. Ranchers were shopping around for hay this week as bitterly
cold temperatures continue to keep hay use high. Ranchers continue
to keep a check on hay stacks as they want to make sure they have
enough supplies to make it to grass. Both extremely cold temperatures
as well as unseasonably warm temperatures were seen this week. Rain,
sleet, snow, and ice has fallen across the state this week. This has
pen conditions muddy for many cattle feeders. Demand for straw was
mostly good to very good. Straw sold steady to 10.00 higher. All
prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise noted.
