Compared to last week: All classes traded steady with moderate demand.
According to the NASS Crop Progress report 9/04/18, a passing upper level trough
brought upon a cooling trend for most regions of the state in which temperatures
reached near/below normal levels. A subtropical high pressure brought about a
gradual warming trend which slowly made its way to other regions of the state.
Heading into the weekend, temperatures were at relatively warmer levels from the
previous days. Dry conditions prevailed during the past week. Temperature highs
ranged from the mid 60s to low 100s in the mountains, mid 70s to high 90s along
the coast, mid 80s to low 90s in the Sierras, low 90s to mid 100s in the central
valley, and high 80s to low 110s in the desert. Temperature lows ranged from
the mid 30s to low 50s in the Sierras, high 40s to low 50s in the mountains,
high 40s to low 60s along the coast, low 50s to low 60s in the central valley,
and low 40s to mid 70s in the desert. In the Sacramento Valley, rice progressed
well, alfalfa was cut and baled, corn was harvested for silage, and sunflower
harvest continued. In Tulare County, cotton and black-eyed beans continued to be
irrigated and cultivated, corn and sorghum were harvested for silage, and
alfalfa was cut and baled. Hay is reported FOB the stack or barn unless
otherwise noted. Regions are defined at bottom of report.
