Week ending 09/14/2018 Drought conditions continue to improve currently 43 percent of the state officially in drought status with 25 more still considered abnormally dry. Many farmers are now in the fields trying to make progress on some kind of fall harvest be it grain or forage. Recent rains, cooler temperatures, and heavy morning dews has made getting crops or field conditions dry enough to run a bit of a challenge. Hay market activity has taken a big drop as grass has greened up and many have been able to reduce or stop feeding for the time being. The overall story of low hay supplies has not changed and even with some fall harvest supplies will be very low though out winter. Hay demand is good, supply is light and hay prices are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales price listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).
