Colorado Hay Report

Compared to last week, trade activity and demand light. Corn sileage is
getting harvested in the northeast Colorado areas. Producers in the San Luis
Valley are starting to bring potatoes out of the field. According to the U.S.
Drought Monitor’s High Plains Drought Summary for September 4, 2018, while
continuing rains eased drought in southeastern Colorado into northeastern New
Mexico, worsening conditions in west-central Colorado slightly expanded the D4
there. According to the NASS Colorado Crop Progress report for week ending
September 2, 2018, stored feed supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 16
percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. 3rd cutting alfalfa
progress is at 65 percent, 4th cutting 3 percent. Pasture and range conditions
percentages are 22 percent Very Poor, 26 percent Poor, 20 percent Fair, 30
percent Good, and 2 percent Excellent. The next available report will be
Thursday, September 13, 2018. All prices reported are FOB at the stack or barn
unless otherwise noted. Prices reflect load lots of hay. If you have hay for
sale or need hay, use the services of the Colorado Department of Agriculture
