Most hay prices hold steady

In Nebraska, grass hay, dehydrated pellets sold steady. Ground and delivered hay sold steady to $5 higher, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sept. 7. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Eastern/central—Premium alfalfa, large squares, $200, large rounds, $120-$130; good, large squares, $160-$180, large rounds, $80-$100. Good grass hay, large rounds, $100-$105; premium, small squares, $160-$170. Cane, large rounds, $70. Straw, large rounds, $60. Dehydrated alfalfa pellets, 17% protein, $230-$240.
Platte Valley—Premium alfalfa, rounds, $110; good, rounds, mostly $100-$105. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $130-$135. Ground and delivered alfalfa-cornstalk mix, $130. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $85-$95. Dehydrated pellets, 17% protein, $215-$220. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $200.

In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, all classes of hay mostly steady. Demand remains just moderate for alfalfa, good demand for high quality grass hay needed to start calves in the feedyard.

In Oklahoma, alfalfa trade moderate early but turned very slow late as widespread rains moved across the state halting field work and limiting movement. Demand was good for all alfalfa offerings. Prices steady to firm.
