Week ending 11/02/2018
Pretty typical start to November as the weather has turned cool days are
overcast with a little moisture in the air. Leaves are in color and
starting to fall while farmers try to get the last of the bean crop out
of the fields. Hay business has slowed slightly and many cattle farmers
are waiting to see when snow falls before buying more hay if needed.
There was a lot of fall hay baled which really helped hay supplies. Stock
water supplies are good and pastures recovered much more than expected
before frost allowing many farmers to stockpile some grass which will
last until snow or temperatures get real cold. The supply of hay light to
moderate. Hay prices are steady to weak. Hay demand is light to moderate.
The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for
both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit
