Alfalfa trade slow this week and movement light. Demand was light to moderate
with but buyer inquiries significantly increased from previous weeks. Most
demand coming from feedlots and smaller buyers. Grass hay demand also
improved this week for higher quality offerings. Oklahoma's first winter
storm of the year brought mostly light snow in western and central counties.
This was the first hard freeze of the year. Winter wheat progress remains
well behind last year: Planted acreage at 84 percent is 9 points lower and
emergence at 75 percent is down 15 points from last year.
Market News continues to maintain an online hay directory for both in-state
and out-of-state hay producers. The directories are on the ODAFF homepage
at www.oda.state.ok.us. Producers wishing to list hay are encouraged to call
at 1-405-522-3753 or email jack.carson@ag.ok.gov.
