South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

Compared to last week: Supreme quality alfalfa steady, Grass hay
fully steady. Straw steady. Good demand for all qualities of alfalfa,
very good demand for high quality grass hay. Dairymen continue their
search for hay of quality high enough to be suitable for their rations,
however their poor margins are keeping them from paying more for hay.
As bawling calves move into feedyards the need for high quality grass hay
is high. Crop harvest progressed well this week, with USDA reporting 59%
of corn and 92% of soybeans harvested on Monday. Dry weather allowed more
progress which lead into scattered snow in eastern part of the state. All
hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.
