Kansas Hay Market Report

Ground/Grinding alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central
Tonnage: 7,128/5,182 Last week: 7,064/4,784 Last year: 9,753/4,689

Hay market trade activity is light and movement remains slow. As one hay
producer stated "we are in a weather induced lull" as far as the shipment of
hay is concerned. Hay has been sold but moving it remains an issue due to mud
and wintry weather. Another winter storm hit Kansas last week with freezing
rain and blowing snow, making travel treacherous. Although there was a nice
warm up over the weekend, temperatures are predicted to plummet again this
week with dangerously cold wind chills possible. Demand remains moderate,
especially for grinding alfalfa and good quality grass hay. Despite the
demand, prices have remained steady for alfalfa while grass hay saw an
increase in the southeastern region. If you have hay for sale, and/or need
hay here in Kansas, use the services of the Internet Hay Exchange:
