Week Ending January 25, 2019
Compared to last week alfalfa hay, grass hay, ground and delivered hay
and Dehy pellets sold mostly steady. There was a tick of a higher
undertone noted on large squares going out of state. Demand within
Nebraska was moderate at best with good demand noted from out of state
customers. Some areas of the state received snow and ice with seasonal
temperatures early in the week with a nice warmup this weekend. Hopefully
most stalk fields will be melted off by weeks end letting cows graze
without much supplementation of hay. Won’t be long until many cattlemen
will start to calve and feed resources will begin to get used. At that
time, it will be interesting to see if there is an upward tick to the
“cow hay” market. All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay
barn, unless otherwise noted.
