Wyoming Hay Summary

Week ending January 18, 2019

Compared to last week all reported forages sold fully steady. Demand
and buyer inquiry picked up from local and out of state users of WY hay.
Most of the large squares of Good to Premium hay is getting shipped to
out of state dairies with a minimal amount to cow/calf producers. Demand
for alfalfa cubes and sun-cured pellets is very good with producers of
these items wondering if they will have enough product to meet the
demand. Snow pack reports ranging from 70-90 percent, less than last year
in some areas but the “readers” of snow pack are not concerned as of
today. A lot of winter is left with great chances of snow into the
spring. Most areas around Powell are open allowing cows to graze winter
pastures. All prices are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn unless
otherwise noted.
