Hay market trade activity remains slow, demand is slow but there has been
increasing inquiries, while prices remain mostly steady for old crop. New crop
pricing seems to be all over the map, as folks are in a quandary on how to price
this first cutting. One thing for certain, now that the sun is shining, is that
producers are in the field frantically swathing and baling hay before the next
rain shower. Most have reported this current cutting is going directly to the
grinder market. Very little dairy quality hay has been baled yet. There has
been a lot of hay wrapped this year due to the lack of good hay curing weather.
