Missouri Weekly Hay and Fescue Seed Summary - Week ending 6/28/2019
It took long enough but finally got some decent hay weather the last
week. Even though grass is well past its prime there was many gallons of
diesel burned this week as hay was being made. It was hard to drive any
distance without seeing fresh cut hay this week. One this that has been
concerning is the lack of quality due to maturity levels there is a lot a
lot of concern especially with Fescue about toxic ergot due to the cool
wet spring leading up to where we are now. Farmers should at the very
least get some education if they are not familiar with this as it can
cause some serious problems with herd health come feeding season. Hay
supplies are moderate, demand is moderate. Hay prices are fully steady.
The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for
both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or to view the directory visit
