Compared to last week: Hay prices steady with reported sales being
moderate. This week saw warmer temperatures with light rain which
improved ground conditions and hay transportation. Hay cutting and
bailing activity across the region, bringing price stability and easing
buyer concerns. Demand still very good for all types of old and new crop
hay in this active market. Corn planted in South Dakota at 78% with 56%
emerged as of Monday; compared to 100% planted and 97% emerged on the 5
year average. Soybeans planted in South Dakota at 70% with 36% emerged
as of Monday; compared to 98% planted and 89% emerged on the 5 year
average. Pasture and range condition reported on Monday 25% Excellent,
56% Good, and 15% Fair. Area temperatures in the 80s and rain expected
this weekend. All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise
noted.
