Week Ending June 28, 2019
Compared to last week, old crop alfalfa steady on a thin test. New crop
alfalfa fully steady to 5.00 higher. Ground and delivered hay sold
unevenly steady. Dehy pellets steady. Demand for big squares was very
good from out of state buyers. Moderate demand for all other hay. Hot dry
weather the next several days are helping producers finish their first
cutting alfalfa. Some have started cutting early season grass hay. Some
reports that first cutting alfalfa is a 1/3 to 1/2 per ton less per acre
in different areas of the state. Several reports of cane or millet going
in on acres that did not get planted to corn or soybeans. Some producers
have started to cut oats for hay. Some areas have received rain, hail,
wind or a combination of all three early in the week. All sales are
dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted.
