Compared to last week: Hay prices were higher with very few sales
reported. Average late spring temperatures and little rain improved
ground conditions and hay transportation. Very good demand for all types
of hay and bedding in this active market. Growers are starting to cut
and bail new crop bringing much needed supply stability. Corn planted in
South Dakota at 44% with 13% emerged as of Monday; compared to 96%
planted and 80% emerged on the 5 year average. Soybeans planted in South
Dakota at 14% with 2% emerged as of Monday; compared to 82% planted and
51% emerged on the 5 year average. Pasture and range condition reported
on Monday 19% Excellent, 53% Good, and 24% Fair. Cooler temperatures and
with light rain expected this weekend and next weekend. All hay and
straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.
