Kansas Hay Market Report

Ground/Grinding alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central
Tonnage: 8,945/6,622 Last week: 8,292/4,975 Last year: 9,905/6,904

Hay market trade has picked up a bit, activity and demand is slow to moderate.
Prices continue to be all over the place as producers try to out maneuver Mother
Nature. As one producer put it, price seems be whatever two people can agree on.
Generally, we are seeing a downward trend in price for both old and new crop
grinding alfalfa. Most of the hay that has been baled so far has gone to the
grinder market and there has been very little dairy quality hay put up. Grass
hay producers are having the same difficulties their neighbors to the west are
having, dodging rain drops, but some good-looking brome has been baled. If you
have any extra hay to sell and/or need hay here in Kansas, use the services of
the Internet Hay Exchange: www.hayexchange.com/ks.php.
