South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

   Compared to last week:  Hay prices stead with very moderate sales 
reported.  This week saw warmer temperatures and light rain improved 
ground conditions and hay transportation.  Very good demand for 
all types of hay in this active market.  Growers are starting to cut and 
bale the new hay crop bringing much needed supply stability.  Corn 
planted in South Dakota at 64% with 34% emerged as of Monday; compared to 
99% planted and 92% emerged on the 5 year average.  Soybeans planted in 
South Dakota at 43% with 11% emerged as of Monday; compared to 93% 
planted and 76% emerged on the 5 year average.  Pasture and range 
condition reported on Monday 19% Excellent, 52% Good, and 24% Fair.  Area 
temperatures in the mid 70s and light rain expected this weekend and next 
weekend.  All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.

East River:
   Alfalfa:  Supreme: New Crop Large Squares, 225.00-250.00. Premium: Old 
Crop Large Squares, 220.00.  Good: Large Squares, 180.00-190.00. Fair:  
Large Squares, 150.00-160.00; Large Rounds, 140.00-170.00.  Utility: 
Large Rounds, 115.00-128.00.

   Sun-cured Alfalfa pellets:  15 pct 240.00; 17 pct 250.00.  Alfalfa
Meal: 17 pct 255.00.

   Grass:  Good:  Large Rounds, 140.00-150.00.

   Alfalfa/Grass Mix: Good: Large Rounds, 150.00-175.00.

   Straw:  Large Rounds, 110.00; Large Squares 135.00-150.00. 

Corn Stalks: No Reported Sales.

  West River:
   Alfalfa:  No Reported Sales.

   Grass:  No Reported Sales.
