Iowa Hay Summary

Week Ending  March 09, 2018

For this week: Hay prices trended steady to 5.00 higher. Demand is very good on higher quality hay, with supplies noted as light. Temperatures starting off the weekend thru the begining of the week will be in the mid 40's, with temperatures progressing into the 50's for the last half of the week. 

Iowa experienced extreme temperature flucuations in temperature for the second month in a row with temps ranging from below 0 to 50+ degrees. Grain movement picked up this month as grain prices increased. Livestock producers have been busy with calving. Overall, livestock conditions were reported as normal with some reports of stress on livestock due to the large temperature swings. Ice in feedlots made them hazardous and slowed down movement.

According to the Drought Monitor abnormally dry conditions remained steady this week at 26.95%. With only 10.04% seeing moderate drought conditions, which were focused in the south eastern portion of the state. All prices FOB per ton unless otherwise noted.
