All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack. Compared to last week: All classes of hay continue to hold at steady levels. Demand moderate to good, with best demand seen from West River and farther west. Interest is best from West River, WY and MT as cattle producers are needing to supplement feed due to the deep snow and very cold temperatures. Demand for bedding materials is very good, as the recent moisture and warmer temps have degraded yard conditions. Hay supplies conitnue to tighten, as many producers are reporting that they are sold out for the year and working on delivering contracted hay. A large winter storm moved across most the the state early in the week dropping anywhere from 2 to 19 inches of snow followed by blizzard like conditions due to the high winds. Yards are very soft and muddy creating issues with hauling hay as well as having to deal with bales that are frozen to the ground. Depressed milk futures continue to have dairies focused on buying hay only as they need it. All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.
