Missouri Weekly Hay Summary

Week ending 03/09/2018

Although spring is drawing near the state was reminded this week that it
is still winter. A quick cold front passed over the state this week dropping
temperatures and bringing some blustery winds and blowing snow to many
areas. Drought conditions continue to show improvement from recent heavy
rains. Several areas actually dealing with some pretty serious mud but
subsoil moisture is no doubt still below normal and hopes that spring
rains will continue are there among the grumblings of losing a boot in
the mud or getting stuck feeding. Several producers are preparing for
spring and there has been a touch of fertilizer spread already. Hay
movement is light to moderate. Hay supplies are light to moderate,
demand is moderate and prices are steady to firm. The Missouri Department
of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers.
