Week ending 03/09/2018 Although spring is drawing near the state was reminded this week that it is still winter. A quick cold front passed over the state this week dropping temperatures and bringing some blustery winds and blowing snow to many areas. Drought conditions continue to show improvement from recent heavy rains. Several areas actually dealing with some pretty serious mud but subsoil moisture is no doubt still below normal and hopes that spring rains will continue are there among the grumblings of losing a boot in the mud or getting stuck feeding. Several producers are preparing for spring and there has been a touch of fertilizer spread already. Hay movement is light to moderate. Hay supplies are light to moderate, demand is moderate and prices are steady to firm. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers.
