Missouri Weekly Hay Summary

Week ending 03/23/2018

The official arrival of spring came this week but warmer temperatures to
really get plants and grasses growing quickly has yet to arrive. Fertilizer
buggies are finding use although many farmers are having to watch and avoid
wet spots now or risk getting stuck. The latest drought monitor shows only 9
percent of the state officially in drought status with a touch over 44 percent
is still abnormally dry. Hay business currently seems to be a story of two
extremes with very little middle ground both on supplies and demand. This
isn’t entirely unusual as the feeding season draws to a close but the
differences in each situation is very drastic this year. Hay supplies are
light to moderate, demand is moderate and prices are steady. The Missouri
Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and
sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit
