Most hay classes traded steady

In Nebraska, alfalfa hay sold unevenly steady. Grass hay sold fully steady. Ground and delivered hay steady and dehydrated pellets steady. Demand was good this week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Feb. 23. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Eastern/central—Premium alfalfa, large rounds, $90-$100; good, large squares, $130-$150, large rounds, $80-$95, small bales, $6/bale. Good alfalfa orchard grass, large squares, $150. Good/premium grass hay, large rounds, $85-$100; premium, small squares grass hay, $150; fair, large rounds, $60-$70; Cornstalk bales, $50-$60. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $120. Dehydrated alfalfa pellets, 17% protein, $230.
Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, large rounds $85-$95. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $120-$125. Alfalfa stover mix, $110-$115. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $85-$90. Dehydrated pellets, 17% protein, $195-$210.
Western—Supreme alfalfa, large squares, $185; premium, large squares, $150-$165; good, large rounds, $130-$145. Straw, large squares, $60-$70. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $150. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $215-$220.
In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, all classes of hay remain steady. Light reported volume as demand only moderate this week.

In Missouri, hay movement is light. Hay supplies are moderate, demand is moderate and prices are steady to firm.

In Oklahoma, alfalfa trade is moderate this week. Movement was mostly slow as winter storms brought rain, snow and ice to much of the state. Demand was generally good for all alfalfa, wheat and grass hay. Supplies of alfalfa are becoming extremely light.

In Texas, alfalfa sold $5 to $10 higher, other hay classes remained steady on limited sales. Demand remains good as supply is scarce which is driving the increase on top quality hay.
