Compared to last week: All classes traded steady with very good demand. According to the NASS California Crop Weather report 7/23/18, high pressure aloft kept temperatures on the warmer side of seasonal averages for the interior areas of California. Coastal areas temperatures were at cooler levels thanks to persistent onshore flow. A low pressure system to the southwest of California helped to bring subtropical moisture northward. This allowed for instability aloft to develop and lead to the formation of isolated thunderstorms, mainly over the higher elevations from midweek and into the weekend. Temperature highs ranged from the upper 60s to lower 100s in the mountains, lower 60s to upper 100s along the coast, mid 80s to the upper 90s in the Sierras, low 100s to upper 100s in the valley, and lower 100s to low 110s in the desert. Temperature lows ranged from the mid 40s to upper 50s in the mountains, upper 40s to upper 60s in the sierras, upper 40s to upper 70s in the valley, low 50s to upper 60s along the coast, and lower 60s to lower 80s in the desert. Rice is progressing well in the Sacamento Valley. Rice was heading in Tulare County, sunflowers began to defoliate, and garbanzo beans continued to be harvested. Hay is reported FOB the stack or barn unless otherwise noted. Regions are defined at bottom of report.
