Demand picking up for most hay classes

In Nebraska, alfalfa sold steady on a thin test. Ground and delivered forages and dehydrated pellets sold steady. Demand was moderate to good, according to the USDA Market News Service, June 28. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Eastern/central—Premium alfalfa, large squares, $180; good, large rounds, $120-$135 delivered; fair, large rounds, $80. Premium grass hay, large squares, $150. Dehydrated alfalfa pellets, 17% protein, $240.
Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, large rounds, $105-$110. Cornstalk bales, $65. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $130-$140. Ground and delivered, alfalfa cornstalks, $125-$130. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $90-$100. Dehydrated pellets, 17% protein, $215.
Western—Good alfalfa, large rounds and large squares, $130, large squares, $160 delivered. Fair grass, large rounds, $97.50. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $155-$185. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $210-$240.
In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, hay prices continue to hold at mostly steady levels. Demand moderate at best, as end-users are currently only wanting to purchase feed as they need it.
East River—Premium/supreme alfalfa, large squares, $200; premium, small squares, $200, large squares, $180; good, large squares, $170-$175, large squares and rounds, $150 delivered to dairy; fair/good, large squares, $150; fair, large rounds, $140. In Iowa, all hay classes traded steady.
Rock Valley—Premium alfalfa, large squares, $182.50; fair, large squares, $95-$130, large rounds $105-$125. Good grass, large squares, $167.50, large rounds, $140-$175; fair, large rounds, $117.50. Good alfalfa grass mixed, large rounds, $137.50-$140; fair, large rounds, $107.50. Rye, large rounds, $77.50. Straw, large squares, $57.50-$67.50, large rounds, $107.50. In Minnesota, prices were generally steady.

In Montana, hay prices sold fully steady. Hay sales are light this week, however some producers are selling hay straight out of the field.

In Colorado, hay trade active on moderate demand. The bulk of trade activity is on small and mid squares going for retail/stable markets.
Northeast—Premium alfalfa, small squares, $275, retail/stable. Premium alfalfa grass mix, rounds, $185. Premium grass, medium squares, $215, small squares, $275-$290; premium, $370, retail stable. No reported quotes for all other classes of hay.
Southeast—Good alfalfa, large squares, $180; premium, small squares, $250. Good/premium grass, small squares, $350, retail/stable. No reported quotes for other classes.
San Luis Valley—Premium alfalfa, large squares, $350, organic. No reported quotes from all other classes of hay.
Southwest—Supreme alfalfa, large squares, $260. Premium alfalfa grass mix, small squares, $235; fair, old crop $245, weedy. Premium grass, small squares, $215, old crop; premium, $370, retail/stable. No reported quotes from all other classes of hay.
Mountains/northwest—Premium grass, small squares, $280, retail/stable. No reported quotes for all other classes of hay.
In Missouri, hay supplies are light. Demand is good. Hay prices are steady to firm.

In Oklahoma, alfalfa trade was slow on good demand and light offerings. Prices were fully steady in the very limited trade.
Central—Premium alfalfa, large squares bales, $180-$200; good, large squares and rounds, $160-$170. New crop wheat hay in rounds and large squares, $90-$120/ton, mostly $100-$110. Mixed grass moistly $80/ton.
Eastern—Premium alfalfa, small squares, $250-$300/ton. New crop mixed grass hay, 4 x 5 bales and 4 x 5 1/2 $30-$40/bale, mostly $35/bale.
Western—Premium alfalfa, large square bales, $180-$200, mostly $190. Good bunk hay, $150-$165; fair, large rounds, $140-150. New crop wheat hay, mostly in rounds, $100-$120/ton.
In Texas, all classes of hay traded $5 to $10 higher. Movement was moderate as supply remains low and demand high.
Panhandle/High Plains—Premium/supreme alfalfa, large squares, delivered $270-$295; good/premium, large squares delivered $250-$270; fair/good, large squares delivered, $230-$250, small bales delivered, $264. Ground and delivered to feedlots, average $190-$200, calf, $210-$230. Wheat hay, large bales, delivered, $180-$200, small bales, delivered, $6.25/bale. Good/premium coastal bermuda, large bales, delivered, $160-$180. Rye, large bales, delivered, $180. Bluestem, large bales, delivered, $45/bale. Cotton burrs, ground and delivered, $65-$75.
Far west Texas/Trans Pecos—Premium/supreme alfalfa, small squares, delivered local or FOB, $290-$360, large squares, FOB, $250-$275; fair/good, $195-$220. Wheat, large bales, FOB, $200. Triticale, large bales, FOB, $200.
North/central/east—Premium/supreme alfalfa, large squares, delivered, $290-$305; good/premium coastal bermuda, small squares, FOB, $231-$297, large rounds, FOB $140-$180; fair/good, small squares, FOB, $198.

In New Mexico, alfalfa hay prices steady. Trade is active, demand good.

Southeast—Premium/supreme baled alfalfa, large squares, $240 delivered to dairies, small bales, $275-$300/ton loaded on truck; good, large squares, $200-$210 delivered to dairies.
South/southwest—Premium/supreme baled alfalfa, large squares, $200-$210 delivered to dairies, small bales, $275-$300/ton, $9-$10/bale FOB.
North central—Premium/supreme baled alfalfa, large squares, $220-$240; premium, small bales, $8-$9/bale.
