Week Ending July 20, 2018 Compared to last week alfalfa sold steady. Grass hay steady on a very thin test. Ground and delivered forages and dehy pellets sold steady. Demand was light to moderate. Some hay producers are starting to say the old nursery rhyme rain, rain, go away come back another day. But on the flip side they do not want all other rain to go away as we all need it for things to grow. Many hay producers are spinning their wheels trying to get into grass hay fields as the water table is very high and fields are very soft. But, we all know couple weeks of dry weather a lot of hay could be mowed and baled. Spotty rains continues across some areas of the state, along with hail and tornadoes or high winds. Some producers have started second cutting of alfalfa with others already done. Most of the reports on the 2nd cutting tonnage is better than first cuttings tonnage. All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted. Eastern/Central Nebraska Alfalfa: Premium large squares 200.00; Good large squares 160.00.
