Week ending 07/27/2018 Temperatures have been tolerable for July but lack of substantial rain has resulted in a continued worsening of conditions. Latest drought monitor now has 32 percent of the state in severe (D2) or extreme (D3) status. Over 85 percent of the state is currently listed as abnormally dry or officially in some stage of drought. There has been some showers around and there is some green tint resurface in areas it was gone but that tint of green is misleading as there is still little to no moisture in the soil. Reports this week some fields of corn in the northwest being chopped or bailed as adjusters have called it a loss as far as grain goes. Hay supplies are light. Demand is very good. Hay prices are steady to sharply higher. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales price listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).
