Week Ending July 6th, 2018 For this week: More classifications of hay were available this week as farmers began to harvest second crop. Premium quality alfalfa was being offered in both Central and Southern Iowa. Farmers in Northeast Iowa continued to be tormented with thunderstorms. Oats began to ripen allowing producers across the southern half of Iowa to offer either Oat hay or Oat Straw for sale. Rye, a traditional cover crop, has begun to move into bedding markets. Hay brokers were looking for early committments for wheat straw that is transported in from surrounding states.
