Iowa Hay Summary

Week Ending July 6th, 2018

For this week: More classifications of hay were available this week as farmers began to

Southern Iowa. Farmers in Northeast Iowa continued to be tormented with thunderstorms.
Oats began to ripen allowing producers across the southern half of Iowa to offer either
Oat hay or Oat Straw for sale. Rye, a traditional cover crop, has begun to move into
bedding markets. Hay brokers were looking for early committments for wheat straw that is
transported in from surrounding states.
