Compared to last week, prices were mostly steady with firm undertones. Activity and demand good in all classes. The NASS Colorado Crop Progress and Condition report for the week ending September 24, 2017 states that widespread cool and rainy weather late last week brought beneficial moisture to several areas, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Early in the week, warm and dry conditions continued to promote crop maturity. In northwestern counties, the first significant snowfall was reported last week along with a killing frost. A reporter noted some hay was still on the ground at that time with quality negatively affected. Pasture and Range conditions were rated 1 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Alfalfa crop condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Alfalfa third cutting is 84 percent complete and fourth cutting is 21 percent complete. All prices reported are FOB at the stack or barn unless otherwise noted. Prices reflect load lots of hay.
