Compared to last week: Hay prices sold generally steady. Demand and supplies were mostly light to moderate. Market activity this week was slow. Drought conditions continue to worsen with 90.2% of the state in Moderate to Exceptional drought and over 9% in abnormally dry. Dairy hay buyers were slightly more active this week as Washington, Idaho and local Montana dairies search for premium and supreme quality 3rd cutting. However, little to no price premium was seen for higher quality hay as milk prices have limited what dairy men can pay for feed. Grass hay sold steady to 5.00 higher on moderate to good demand and light supplies. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise noted.
