Week Ending Friday, September 01, 2017 For this week: Hay prices trended mostly steady to instances 5.00 higher for higher quality alfalfa and grass. Third cutting Alfalfa hay reached 82% complete this week, 10 days ahead of average with 35% being reported as fair and 25% reported as good to excellent per the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). For the second week in a row heavy rain fell in parts of Iowa, with western Iowa having above normal precipitation per the Drought Mitigation Center. Looking forward through next week a dry sunny weekend can be expected, with cooler fall like temperatures to follow next week with highs being in the low to mid 70's and lows being in the high 40's to low 50's. According to NASS 41% of the corn crop has reached the dent stage, which is four days behind average, with 60% of the corn crop being reported in good to excellent condition. 94% of soybeans were setting pods, two days behind last year; however, still one day ahead of the average. Soybean condition improved slightly with 60% of crop being reported in the good to excellent range.
