Compared to two weeks ago: Hay prices sold mostly 5.00-10.00
higher as dry conditions in the eastern portion of the state
have producers looking for feed supplement as grass conditions
have deteriorated. The majority of producers have sold out of
hay, however limited loads of old crop hay continue to
move as ranchers search for forage. The Drought Monitor is
released every Tuesday and gives drought conditions for the
US. This week’s report shows significant drought expansion
as almost 17% of the state has entered Moderate drought
status, while almost 37% of the state is abnormally dry.
Many producers in the central portions of the state are in
the midst of first cutting. Some producers are selling hay
straight out of the field. This is being met with mostly
good demand on very limited sales. All sales are old crop
unless labeled as new crop. All prices are dollars
per ton and FOB unless otherwise noted.
