Week ending 06/23/2017 Farmers continue to progress well with hay harvest. Over 30 percent of the second cutting of alfalfa is complete and over 70 percent of other hay has been harvested. There is about 10 percent of the state showing in the latest drought monitor, with several counties in north central MO in D1 status. Hay movement is light, supplies are moderate, demand is light and prices are steady to weak. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales price listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs). Light yields have also been affected in some areas by heavy winds from pop up storms causing some loss of seed. It has been several years now since a good harvest has occurred in the state and partly due to that the number of buying stations has also dwindled in certain areas of the state as well. (Dry: Moisture 12-14% - Wet: Moisture greater than 14%) (Prices are per lb.) prices reported at .48 wet, .50 dry.
