Weekly East River South Dakota Hay Market

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

Compared to last week:  Very little reported sales of any
type of hay sold in recent weeks to allow a price comparison.  Demand
light to moderate.  Inquiry has picked up this week but hay growers
are uncertain of where they should price their hay.  The drought
conditions expanded again this week, even though there was rain
that brought some relief to many areas.  Temps remain very hot for
this time of the year, more typical of July weather than June.
Many hay growers were able to put their first cutting up without
any rain on it, which is helping the quality but without more rain
subsequent cuttings will be reduced.  Cattle producers in those driest
areas have started their culling process as the grass conditions are
deteriorating.  All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise
noted.
